A Picture is Worth a Thousand Rides
A picture may be worth a thousand words, but in April, a picture will be worth a thousand rides. You're invited to join our photo contest to show how Metrolink is your ticket to explore countless destinations within the six counties of Southern California.
Simply take the train and snap a picture of your journey or favorite destination. Three lucky winners will each win a year's worth of monthly passes to travel for free on Metrolink. To enter, send your name, photo and photo location to

Why is Metrolink offering free rides on Earth Day?
We understand how taking cars off the road can benefit our planet. By leaving your car behind and choosing the train, you’re contributing to a healthier Southern California by reducing traffic and your carbon footprint. Metrolink is offering free rides all day on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22 to encourage people to take the train, skip traffic and enjoy a comfortable, convenient and stress-free ride with friends or family.
Do I need a ticket to get my free ride?
You can receive your free Metrolink paper ticket at any Metrolink ticket machine on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, by entering promo code EARTHDAY2023.
We will also send a complimentary Earth Day ticket to registered Metrolink mobile app users on Friday, April 21. Mobile accounts must be registered before Friday, April 21 to receive the complimentary mobile ticket for Earth Day.
What time are free rides being offered on Earth Day?
Free rides will be offered all day on Saturday, April 22 on all scheduled Metrolink trains. Plan your trip and see the latest train times at metrolinktrains.com/schedule.
How do I plan my Metrolink trip?

What if I already prepaid for a monthly or weekly pass? Will I get reimbursed for the price of the ticket for Earth Day since it’s free?
No. Prepaid pass holders will not be reimbursed for the free fare day.
What if I would like to purchase my weekly pass on Earth Day? Will the ticket machines be available for ticket purchases??
Ticket machines are available but rides are free on Earth Day. Take advantage of the free ride and purchase your 7-Day Pass on the next day you plan to travel.
Will I get a seat if I take the train on Earth Day?
Seats on Metrolink trains are available on a first-come, first-served basis. We do expect an increase of passengers for the day and some trains may have standing room only.
Will there be space to put my bike on the train?
Bike space is limited. Traditional passenger cars hold up to 3 bikes, and our modified bike cars hold up to 11 bikes. We suggest arriving early to secure space for your bike.
Can I transfer from Metrolink to other trains and buses with my free ticket?
Yes. Metrolink riders can ride any Metrolink train throughout our system for free on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22. You must have your free Earth Day paper or mobile ticket to take advantage of free transfers on most connecting transit. Learn more at metrolinktrain.com/connections.

What are the contest rules?

How do I enter the contest?
All entries must be submitted by email with their name, photo and photo location to [email protected] in either .jpg or .png format. All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, April 24, 2023 to be eligible to win.
Participants can either use cameras or mobile devices to take their photos. Entries must include either a Metrolink train, Metrolink station, or Metrolink Explore destination accessible by taking Metrolink. Entries of Explore destinations accessed by using Metrolink and a free connecting transit partner will also be accepted.

What is the prize for the contest?
Three entries will be chosen to win twelve (12) Monthly Passes starting in May 2023 through April 2024.
How will the contest winner(s) be selected?
Entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges.
How long is the contest running?
The contest will run from April 3 to April 24. All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, April 24, 2023 to be eligible to win.
How do I find out if I won the contest?
Metrolink will reach out to contest winners during the week of April 24 by the email address used to submit the winning photo. Winners will have 72-hours to respond to the notification.
